Lori Godin

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Deciding to make that first call or send that first email inquiring about counseling, can be a very difficult step. Many people don’t know what to expect when they are thinking about going to a therapist, and the unknown can be uncomfortable and even scary. However, by reading this web page, you are already taking the first step in reducing the unknown and the fear by gathering information. Hopefully, the information that follows will provide you with what you need to know in order to decide whether or not to call or email me and take that next step toward getting help.

People choose to go to therapy for any number of reasons. Their problems may date back to childhood or to last week’s breakup. Their distress may be intense or mildly nagging. They may have tried everything or never realized what to try. But what we all have in common is the natural ability to solve our own problems. The answers are within us, but we occasionally need someone’s help to discover them. Through the relationship forged in therapy, I can help you discover your answers. I believe that I am uniquely qualified to work with the people of Silicon Valley because in addition to being a licensed marriage and family therapist with a master’s degree from Santa Clara University, I had a prior high tech career in local industry for 13 years. I obtained an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University and an engineering degree from the University of Michigan. This experience allows me to easily relate to the issues that arise from working in a fast-paced, competitive, and demanding environment and better understand how it effects personal relationships and family.

Currently, in my private practice, I work with couples, families, adults, adolescents, and children. In addition, I do child custody mediations and divorce counseling. I am a certified counselor in domestic violence intervention through the Santa Clara County Probation Department, and I was previously the program director for a batterers intervention program in San Jose. During that time, I also developed an anger management program for adults. Prior to that, I was a family therapist at the Bill Wilson Center working with runaway and severely acting out adolescents and their families in a residential reunification program. I also have experience doing therapy at a substance abuse program for adolescents and their families, at an elementary school with children and their families, and at a single parents program with adults and children.

Since you are reading this entire page, it is likely that you are considering obtaining therapy for yourself and/or a loved one. I would be happy to talk with you by phone or by email before actually setting up an appointment. This will give you an opportunity to ask any further questions that I have not covered above. Please don’t hesitate to contact me either by phone at 408.260.9996 or by email at:
